French Hour Classes

French for Beginners

  1. Be consistent
Practise 20 minutes every day. Regular practice is more effective than studying for several hours only once a week.
  2. Start with basic greetings
Learn phrases like Bonjour, Salut, Bonsoir, Merci, and Au revoir.
  3. Speak from Day 1
Don’t wait until your French is perfect. Repeat words and sentences aloud and practise short conversations.
  4. Build a basic vocabulary
Start with common words for family, numbers, colours, food, days, months, and everyday objects.
  5. Learn French pronunciation early
Pay attention to sounds such as R, U, é, è, and nasal sounds.
  6. Practise simple sentences
Start with structures such as Je m’appelle…, J’habite à…, J’aime…, and Je voudrais….
  7. Understand gender
French nouns are generally masculine or feminine. Learn the article with the noun: un livre, une table.
  8. Listen to French every day
Listen to simple French conversations, songs, podcasts, or videos—even for 10 minutes a day.
  9. Learn a little grammar every day
Focus first on articles, pronouns, verb conjugations, adjectives, negation, and question formation.
  10. Learn essential verbs
Begin with être, avoir, aller, faire, and s’appeler.
