- Be consistent
Practise 20 minutes every day. Regular practice is more effective than studying for several hours only once a week.
- Start with basic greetings
Learn phrases like Bonjour, Salut, Bonsoir, Merci, and Au revoir.
- Speak from Day 1
Don’t wait until your French is perfect. Repeat words and sentences aloud and practise short conversations.
- Build a basic vocabulary
Start with common words for family, numbers, colours, food, days, months, and everyday objects.
- Learn French pronunciation early
Pay attention to sounds such as R, U, é, è, and nasal sounds.
- Practise simple sentences
Start with structures such as Je m’appelle…, J’habite à…, J’aime…, and Je voudrais….
- Understand gender
French nouns are generally masculine or feminine. Learn the article with the noun: un livre, une table.
- Listen to French every day
Listen to simple French conversations, songs, podcasts, or videos—even for 10 minutes a day.
- Learn a little grammar every day
Focus first on articles, pronouns, verb conjugations, adjectives, negation, and question formation.
- Learn essential verbs
Begin with être, avoir, aller, faire, and s’appeler.
